State Representative Denis E. Guyer
Representative Denis Guyer is the State Representative for the Second Berkshire District, which is geographically the largest district in the Massachusetts House, comprised of twenty-one towns and one precinct in the city of Pittsfield and spread across the three most western counties; Berkshire, Franklin and Hampshire in western Massachusetts. First elected to serve as a Dalton Selectman in 2001, Representative Guyer won election as State Representative in 2004. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of The Joint Committee on the Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture in addition to serving on two committees of the legislature; House Committee on Ways and Means as well as the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies. In just his first four years on Beacon Hill Representative Guyer has championed some of the major issues facing his mostly rural constituents, such as dairy farm relief, rural broadband access, responsible forestry and most importantly; state wide health care reform. He is largely considered by many in the House to be the “go to legislator” on the issue of Regional School Transportation Reimbursement and his work and knowledge of that issue has brought about a fifty percent increase in the amount sent back by the state to reimburse regional school communities. Representative Guyer’s efforts on behalf of farmers, and particularly his efforts to support locally grown organizations and anti-hunger programs were recognized in 2008 by receiving the “Legislator of the Year Award” by the agricultural community. Representative Guyer lives in Dalton and has one son, Charlie. On his off time, he enjoys skiing, hiking, kayaking and target pistol shooting.
